What is Auto Enrolment?

Starting with the largest employers in the UK first, it is legal requirement that started in October 2012 affecting all UK Employers.

It means that all UK businesses with Employees must set up a Qualifying Workplace Pension Scheme (QWPS).

The law on workplace pensions has changed. This affects every employer in the UK with at least one member of staff and presents a number of new duties, including enrolling those who are eligible into a workplace pension scheme and contributing towards it.

This is called ‘automatic enrolment’ because it is automatic for staff – they don’t have to do anything to be enrolled into a pension scheme, but it is not automatic for employers.
